Centre for the World in the Viking Age (WIVA)
WIVA is a collaborative, interdisciplinary meeting place for the study and wider discussion of Scandinavian relations with the world in the long Viking Age, based at the University of Uppsala, Sweden. Directed by Professor Neil Price, the Centre has collaborated with the Nara to Norwich project on several research trips and workshops. Members of the Nara to Norwich team also sit on the International Advisory Board for WIVA.
Vikings in Asia (VIA)
Led by Professor Neil Price, longstanding collaborator of the Nara to Norwich project, ‘The Vikings in Asia: Diversity and Distance in the Norse Diaspora’ activates an international team of scholars in archaeology, history, religions, and economics in the first serious engagement with Norse connections to the far south and east. Several members of the Nara to Norwich team are involved in the project.
The Archaeological Institute of Kashihara
The Archaeological Institute of Kashihara (奈良県立橿原考古学研究所), based in Nara Prefecture, Japan, was founded to research the many important archaeological sites in the region. This includes the Fujinoki Kofun (藤ノ木古墳), an Asuka period burial mound and designated National Treasure. The Institute has collaborated on several projects with the Nara to Norwich project, most recently on an exhibition ‘The Sutton Hoo Ship Burial Tombs and Fujinoki Tomb in the UK – Unlooted Tombs in East and West Eurasia’ (英国サットン・フー船葬墓と藤ノ木古墳－ユーラシア東西の未盗掘墓－) in January 2026.
