Name/TitleOseberg Ship, Viking Ship Museum, Oslo
About this objectThis ship is a Viking Karve, clinker built around 820 and made mainly of oak. It was buried 14 years later holding the corpses of two women, one aged about 80 and possibly Queen Asa, and the other 50–55 years old. The grave goods—some had been previously robbed—suggested this was a high status burial. They included rare fragments of a tapestry made from wool and silk [EXH136]. Also found were the skeletal remains of 15 horses, an ox, and three dogs.
