About this objectThis copy of the gospels, a popular selection from the Bible, was possibly made in 11th-century Denmark and contains notes showing that it was used in Dalby Church and priory in the 14th and 15th centuries. The gilt silver and copper binding dates from the middle of the 12th century.
Apart from the Latin text, the book contains four full-page miniatures with portraits of the Four Evangelists—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—attributed with creating the four gospels.
