About this objectDuring repairs in 1966 on Seokga Stupa [EXH52] at Bulguksa (佛國寺) [EXH43], built in the early to mid 8th century, the relic chamber was uncovered to reveal a gilt bronze reliquary with a perforated surface adorned with scrolling vine patterns. The inner reliquary caskets consisted of two egg-shaped, silver-plated inner and outer caskets, a gilt-bronze rectangular casket, glass and wooden relic bottles, and a silver relic jar. The relics, which were found both inside the caskets and next to them, included stupa models, a printed dharani sutra, and several beads. The outer reliquary was wrapped in silk cloth.
