About this objectCarved ivory panel, originally one side of a casket, showing the crucifixion of Jesus and the suicide of his betrayer, Judas. The purse with the silver coins paid to Judas for his betrayal is shown on the ground below his feet. The
soldier Longinus is to the left of Jesus piercing his side with a sword. The
Virgin Mary and Saint John are shown to his right. The Latin inscription above reads REX IVD[AEORUM]— King of the Jews (this may be a later
addition).
