Name/TitlePensive bodhisattva in Japan, possibly made in Korea, Kōryūji NT
About this objectThis bodhisattva in pensive mode is now in Kōryūji (広隆寺), a Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. The iconography had spread from Gandhāra through China and Korea, and it is possible this piece was made in Korea and taken to Japan. This is supported by the fact it is made of red pine, a wood common in the Korean peninsula.
