Name/TitleChestlace, Gyeongju National Museum: 1978.12.07
About this objectCalled a chestlace, this is a piece of jewellery which hung down the chest like a necklace but secured by the weight of the pieces thrown over the shoulders which were not fastened together.
The round blue glass/jade pieces and hollow gold beads were linked into six strands, which were then braided. Cuboid gold ornaments were inserted to divide the central part into five strands and the ends into three strands. For additional decoration, comma-shaped jade pieces—gogok—were hung in the centre and from each end. The jade is probably jadeite from Japan or Taiwan.
Such pieces are found in other elite tombs in Gyeongju, such as that from the 4th century Wolseong-ro Tomb.
