About this objectBracteates, or thin, single-sided medals worn as jewellery, generally pre-date Christianity and often have images of gods such as Odin/Woden. In addition to a male head, these two show a horse, a swastika and one has a runic inscription reading 'alu'. The swastika is a motif found in cultures from the Neolithic, but then seen quite commonly in the 1st millennium in northern Europe and in Buddhism in central and eastern Asia.
They were discovered in Djupbrunns, Sweden, inside a copper box together with two silver rings.
